Mutual Aid Question From a Brother: Question. I am a Volunteer in Ontario Canada, for aprox 4 months. Ive been on all kinds of calls in those 4 months. 2 days ago I got paged out to a 3 car MVC I left work and headed down the highway and as I got closer to the scene, traffic was backed up both ways due to the accident. I drove on the side of the road to arrive on scene and 1 ambulance ( 2 attendants) were on scene tending to the victims 6 total ( Not serious). Due to the traffic jam Our trucks and the other ambulances/Police were having a tough time getting to the scene. I was trained when arriving on scene we are not to do anything until our trucks arrive with all of gear (safety). Now this is something I will be asking my chief, but I thought I would throw this out there to get some opnions. What if things were different with this MVC and people were trapped ,serious injuries etc..... Do I throw all my safety concerns/training out the window and do what I would do if I wasnt a Volunteer and that is try to help my fellow man. Dont get me wrong my chief will give me the answer to my question and he will guide me in the right direction. Im just curious what others would do.
