Muzaffarabad visit. Over the last two days, the Ambassador and his team have been to Muzaffarabad. The main event of the visit was to launch the new gender initiative together with Oxfam and Pakistani partners (see our posting yesterday). Let us update you on what they also did: Over the last decade, Denmark has provided significant humanitarian aid to this region. Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is working closely together with the Danish Red Cross, which is the only partner present on the ground in AJK. The collaboration between PRCS and Danish Red Cross have helped many in the area, including after the earthquake (2005) and floods (2010 and 2012). During their first day, the team participated in the one man, one tree campaign by planting trees in three places. Together with World Food Program and the Forest Department, the team went to see the results of the Integrated Land Management project. This project aims to conserve the natural terrain through planting of trees. The program also includes training and capacity building. Gender equality and womens rights were a main feature of the visit. The team was invited by UN Womens local office for a briefing on their work related to women empowerment and the working of the female caucus. Muzaffarabad offers some wonderful historical and natural sites. Despite their busy schedule, the team had time to explore the historical Red Fort, which was constructed in the 16th century, and was also invited for lunch besides the beautiful Jehlum River.
