Muzzle brakes are primarily employed to reduce muzzle flip and make follow up shots easier. While their benefits for competitive shooting are obvious, they also have a less obvious use for tactical rifles, especially short barreled rifles with suppressors. SBRs has a lot of unburned powder expelled from the muzzle, and all those high speed particles can erode even the strongest inconel suppressor baffles. By using a muzzle brake suppressor mount, you put a few extra baffles before your expensive suppressor baffles, greatly enlongating the service life of your suppressor. That being said, SBRs are already extremely loud, and a SBR with a muzzle brake and no suppressor is deafening. Hope this info helps when choosing between a suppressor and muzzle brake!
