My 3 hour long experience of the Texas Northeast 3rd jurisdiction ecclesiastical church of God in Christ Holy convocation held in Mt Pleasant Tx on last night goes like this. We got there at 8pm, and quickly had a few awkward stares which I expected because you see I didnt wear a suit niether did my wife a skirt.(which is a no no by the way) Anyway service began after about 3 scripture readings, 2 prayers, and a lot of extra talking and shuffling around. There were some beliefs recited which I couldnt understand because they sounded like a chant due to the large amount of people attending. Then came the offering portion of the service, or should I say the first offering. In which the preacher instructed everyone to get $21 in their hand and bring it to the table. He made sure to let us all know that he was giving $30 himself might I add. The total amount, written on paper was taken to the bishop where he gave his nod of consent and the service moved on. Somewhere in between the congregation was instructed to praise their bishop. As they did without question. Now,a few songs and some time later the speaker of the hour finally makes his grand entrance somewhere between 9-9:30 I believe. Service started at 8. He instructed the choir to sing and he rendered a couple of notes himself. We went to proverbs 3:4 and he began to speak on the favor of God and man in which he repeatedly interrupted the delivery of his own message by telling the audience innumerable times to hi five somebody, turn to your neighbor,look at somebody, and tell somebody!!! Halfway thru the sermon he shouts at the musicians to start playing in key C so he can and i quoteget out of here. He begins to holler and scream to the point of I could barely make out what he was saying. Now he was really into it! Running from side to side on the stage as the people which were previously sitting down during the portion of the message that u could understand what he was saying are now standing up and cheering him on. Well, except a few of us in the middle seating area. He shouted at us for not standing while he was screaming and said i guess i must not be preaching to yall!! This hooping goes on for about 10 minutes while he screams say yeah! say yeah! shout glory! tell the Lord thank ya!! As the crowd does without question or hesitation. Now in his closing he calls those that want prayer to the altar as some people have seem to have had enough and try to leave, he instructs the ushers to block the doors, dont let anyone out, they need to be coming to the altar, he says. After prayer he petitions for a sacrificial offering in the amount of $20 during which he says I dont see yall moving, I dont see you, I need to see you. After the few that participated in this were finished, he then called for everyone else to bring whatever money they had to give as a sacrifice. He said,dont not be blessed, and dont let someone else get your blessings by you not giving. Oh yeah, he also said that the church of god in christ was the best church in the world. I suppose now satisfied,we move on to the ordination portion of the service around about 10:50pm in which several that had met the requirements of the cogic were promoted and charged to do what they request of them. This lasted till I think 11:26 or maybe that was when I gave out because when I saw the service was not yet complete I saw my way to the door. Cant really tell u what time it was over or what happened after I left. I wont even share my opinion with u on this matter only my experience from what I sat thru.
