My 9 year old son thinks police officers are super heroes. We talked today about the fact that some police officers arent super heroes; they are real people who can be bullies like anyone else. We talked about the fact that a white officer shot a young black man last week. He asked if we were white or black. We talked about racism and fear. He asked why the officer used a bullet-gun because the only reason you use those is to kill things. (the young man in Ferguson was shot 6 times) Watching him gaze out of the car window in total disbelief at my answers was humbling and sad. I didnt want to have this conversation. Watch this video.
