My Birthday 2014 / Moms L.A. Visit 2014... Its been an awesome birthday week with my Mom here in L.A. She arrived Wed night and we grabbed a bite at Bobs Big Boy and called it an early night. Thursday we went to see GODZILLA in IMAX 3D at the Chinese Theater. I hadnt been there since they renovated it and was impressed by the job they did. Then we had dinner at Little Tonis in NoHo, the restaurant where I had my birthday dinner in 2012 when Mom & Dad last visited L.A. Friday we went to see MALIFICENT at the El Capitan. And we were both impressed by the magic show that preceded the movie. The El Capitan is pricey, but we definitely got our moneys worth. We walked over to the Egyptian with the intention of just showing her the courtyard, but one of the staff recognized me and was kind enough to let us in so Mom could see the theater. We followed up the movie by indulging in Ghirardellis next door! Saturday was an early dinner at Johnny Rockets followed by Moms first ever Q&A screening, which was a double feature of THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY plus a Q&A with James Cameron! I got to ask Cameron a question and so did my friend Jeff Goldsmith. We were also joined by my dear friend Jordan Raskin. Sunday was my official birthday celebration courtesy of the New Beverly Cinema. Michael Torgan let me choose a double feature: FIELD OF DREAMS 25th Anniversary screening and THE NATURAL 30th Anniversary screening. Plus I did a Q&A with Oscar nominated Cinematographer Caleb Deschanel. We had dinner at Cayenne Café next door first with Pat Russo, Heather Hoislbauer, Jordan & Debbie Raskin, Gino Latorre, Dave Wilson, Cathie Horlick, Shannon Robles, Jennifer Blanc, Chris Frobose & Ricardo Gale. During dinner I learned that the marquee said Happy Birthday Brian which was awesome! Caleb and his family came for the Q&A and stayed to watch THE NATURAL. I think the Q&A went really well and I heard that Caleb said it went well and approved of the print. He and his family seemed excited to see his name on the marquee. His daughter Emily Deschanel of BONES came and my Mom was thrilled to meet her because shes a big fan of the show. Emily could not have been sweeter to her and they got a picture together. Today, my actual birthday, was spent with Mom at Universal City Walk. We had lunch at Jody Maronis and watched CHEF, which is my favorite picture of the year so far. Then we had dinner at Claim Jumper. All in all, thats a pretty amazing week! Thanks to everyone mentioned above and to those of you who came to the New Bev last night and enjoyed the double feature. And thanks for all of the birthday messages today. Pictures from some of this will follow sometime this week. While 2014 has been the worst year of my 41, its great to have so many wonderful friends and an amazing Mom to help me through it and to just kick back and have some fun!
