My Christmas Eve Reflection - On the eve of Christmas, dear Mother Mary, as you felt the life within you and the kick of the babys tiny foot, were you filled with anticipation and eagerness for the miracle of your Sons birth to come about? Did you long to gaze upon and kiss the face of God, to see Gods promise fulfilled through you? Were you about to burst with hopes, dreams, fears and expectation as you waited for the unexplainable mystery of Gods love to come? Blessed Joseph, protector and defender of Mary and Jesus, devoted husband and chosen father, you stayed close and watched and waited with awe for Gods providential moment in history to come. You are strong and silent. Yet in the distance you hear the sound of angel wings and voices coming closer and closer, anticipating the miraculous moment of God becoming flesh. Mary and Joseph, you see Him come, the creator of the universe in the form of a tiny baby, trusting you to care for, provide and meet His needs. Did the animals around you in the stable draw closer, sensing the warmth and light that emanated from this baby, then bend a knee and bow before Him too? Mary, as you gently place your baby in the manger, are you aware that here is the bread of life that will feed the world? Born 2000 years ago in Bethlehem, born today in hearts all around the world who open to receive Him. Open my humble heart to become a manger, too, and receive you, Jesus, in a nest of love. Let my heart beat in unison with yours, Our Savior, as Mary and Joseph fall on their knees before you and angels sing praises once again. O come, O come, Emmanuel, God with us. Once again, you are born to bring new life, new hope, new joy and salvation to the world. Come into my heart and stay.
