My Congressman shared this on his wall stating that he is against the program and that it is full of fraud. I thought everyone knew about the Lifeline program by now, but I guess my congressman does not. This is the post I made in response to his post: It is called the Lifeline program and it was put into place by Ronald Reagan in 1985. GW Bush expanded the program to included cell phones, and in fact expanded the program twice during his administration. It is not paid for by tax dollars. If there are tax dollars being used for it, please inform me. Both landline carriers, and wireless carriers provide these phones. You apply at the phone company, not at DSS. The carriers pay for the phones. In some states, some carriers pay a tax that is used to pay for the phones, but I understand that this is not common place.
