My Dear Facebook friends, I am very happy to introduce to all my friends, Shri Ashok L Babar, an employee in Vijaya Bank Dharwad, Karnataka. Born in a poor family, he could not pursue his education beyond matriculation. He worked as paper-boy, milk-distributor, ice-cream vendor, mason etc, before working as daily wager in my bank ie Canara Bank, Corporation bank, LIC, Post office etc. Finally he got a job in Vijaya Bank and joined bank on 15the June 1983. On the day of his joining he had decided not to take any leave come what may. Now he has completed 30 years of successful service on 15th June 2013, WITHOUT TAKING A SINGLE DAYS LEAVE. Some of my FB friends might wonder and may feel that this is an exaggeration. Such people may get their doubt cleared by contacting nearest Vijaya Bank Branch or to their Head Office. Mr. Ashok has been famously known for his endeavour. In 1990, he met with a cycle -truck accident, on duty, with head injury and had to be treated with 8 stitches. People thought now he will have to take leave as per the advice of Doctors. He ignored every body’s advice and joined the branch next day promptly. In 1993 he was stung by wild bees and made his eye swollen. He worked with the help of one eye but did not take leave. His father Lakshman Babar expired in 1997, August. It was Wednesday. The news came to him at his office, but Ashok visited the residence only during lunch hour and joined back bank promptly without compromising the principles. Evening, after the banking hours, at 6.30 pm he went home and did the final rites of is father who had been an inspiration to Ashok and who was also a principled person worked in education department, known for his honesty and sincerity. In fact the Ashok’s father had indicated Ashok about the ill-health and told Ashok not to succumb to grief. Next day Ashok was promptly in the office. In 1998 early January, Ashok,s mother died. Same month on 19th his brother who was bed-ridden with physically handicapped state, also died. Thus within 5 months his lost three of his loved once. Ashok’s one more brother was also born deaf and mentally retarded and died in 2001. Ashok managed everything without taking any leave and attended funeral only after office hours. Ashok is blessed with a suitable wife just like his mentality. In fact people were not ready to give daughter to Ashok looking at his problems ie old aged parents, one of the brothers is bed-ridden, and another of the brother is born deaf and mentally retarded. But Bharathi is also an example for a ideal Indian wife. Knowing all these problems, she convinced her parents to allow her to marry Ashok saying that it is a god given opportunity to serve the whole family with full of her dedication. Ashok has once told me that Bharati even used to shave the face of the brother who was mentally retarded. Ashok was honoured by many religious and social organizations in the city, outside the city, in the district, outside the district and all over Karnataka. His only condition is the function should fall on Sunday or any bank holiday. He even god married on a Bank Holiday. He travels with his family to places only when there are connecting holidays. WHEN I RECENTLY MET HIM IN DHARWAR, I ASKED HIM A QUESTION. ARE YOU NOT, MR. ASHOK, DEPRIVING YOUR FAMILY WITH ALL THE HAPPINESS THEY DESERVE, JUST TO STICK TO YOUR PRINCIPLES? HE GAVE A WINNIG PROUD SMILE AND SAID “MY WIFE, BHARATI, DAUGHTERS, RANJANA AND JAYSHRI, SON VISHWADEEP ALL VERY PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF MY FAMILY. THE ARE ALSO PROUD OF ME AND PROMISS ME TO CO-OPERATE IN ALL RESPECT IN MY DICISION TO RETIRE FROM THE SERVICE OF THE BANK WITHOUT TAKING ANY LEAVE” My eyes were wet when he was telling this as a ever-winning warrior.
