My Favorite Theater of the 1980s, Part VIII: Jimmy Henson fantasy - TopicsExpress

My Favorite Theater of the 1980s, Part VIII: Jimmy Henson fantasy (USA) I like the Muppets, but when it comes to Jim Henson, I really love his fantasy stuff. Its a shame these works werent more financially successful, as he would have produced more. One thing that I find very special about The Dark Crystal is that its a live-action movie without a single homo sapiens. How many other movies can make that claim? Outside of animation, there seems to be a constant requirement to stink up the screens with humans, even in fantasy works. Thanks for your courage, Henson and Frank Oz. His next film, Labyrinth, is something of a reworking of The Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland. Finally, he moved on to a TV show, The Storyteller, which is surprisingly short on puppets, but very high on atmosphere. Onlylights: The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Storyteller
