My Girls from Animal Collective is such a sweet song. Its probably their most popular song. One of those songs that people who dont know the band still often know. It was pretty much a summer song in the hipster community when it came out and passed beyond that into the mainstream. Probably not in New Zealand outside of Auckland but in the rest of the world where peoples musical taste is more progressive. The message of the song is so sweet though. Very much the hippie dream. All the singer wants is four walls and adobe slats for his girls. (An adobe slat is a type foundation for housing. Google it.) All he wants is a house for his girls. Half heard at a party you might mentally sing along and think this is an ode to the single life. But the song is about having a wife and a daughter and making sure they are provided for above all else. Nothing else matters to the singer except this. A very moving sentiment but unfortunately Im not there yet. So when I hear it. Its an ode to the single life because all I want is a bed for my girls really. But I hope one day to pass beyond such pleasure seeking emotions and to fully relate to the song. But I will adopt because there are so many unwanted children in the world who need to be wanted and I dont need a mini me in order to feel fufilled.
