My Indian identity remains I destructible as the seeds sown in the foundation years ago by my forefathers will always grow and blossom. Today marks the 154 th anniversary of the arrival of Indentured Indian labourers to South Africa. They left their homes and loved ones in India to work in the sugar cane fields here and despite all the hardships they perservered. In doing so they planted the seeds for our existence in South Africa. They unselfishly provided the foundation for our education, religious and cultutal needs. The most defining moment in the history of the South African People of Indian origin is when the Indentured Indian labourers decided to remain in South Africa after the five years of indenture, instead of going back to their family and loved ones. 154 years later we have done pretty damn well for ourselves! #saindian #proud #hearusroar
