My Karaoke Week ! Part # 1. Well , tonight I started my quest to sing in as many different venues this week. It promises to be quite the story as such thing go. My recently retired wife and I went down to the Sub-Way restaurant in Northumberland at around 8:30 and had our supper. Yum , yum. Then we literally stepped across the street to Grumpy’s Pub for Midnite Jam and the incomparable Mr. Howie Miller . When we went in “ Rockin’ Ike “ Wynn was setting up the system so that when Howie got off of work he would be able to just hook up his lap-top and a few wires and get it fired up. I sang from the six hole and put in an old blues song by Mr. Gene Chandler , RAINBOW. Since I had another venue to get to this night , I said my goodbyes and left. We then headed for YOMP , where Bill Smith has had his fantastic Karaoke and entertainment system set up now for almost a year every Tuesday night. Keith Keister told me to put in a song and he would add me to the end of the list . So , I had already made up my mind to sing a classic by the 4 tops. BABY , I NEED YOUR LOVING. I told Keith that the small list that I had given him need not be followed in any particular order ad he said , “ good , because you will be singing one of my favorite songs . “ I sang BRING IT ON HOME TO ME , by the late , great Sam Cooke. Then , as my last turn neared , I put in one of my newer “ novelty type “ songs. I had only sang it before in my basement but I wanted to spit it out in public tonight. The late great Harry Chapin recorded a song based on a very true story involving a load of bananas being wrecked on the hill leading into Scranton , Pennsylvania. 30,000 POUNDS OF BANANAS is the story of that historic event. As usual , the friendship and fellowship at YOMP with that particular crew made it so much more fun and enjoyable , at least for me. Eddie and I said our goodnights and came home. There will be Wednesday night down at Applebees , four places on Thursday night , One , maybe two on Friday night , one on Saturday night , and the finale on Sunday night right here in Milton. That would make it a week of a total of Ten different venues on six nights. What a potential week of singing and , I promise , NO REPEATS in my songs either. More to come .
