My Latest Creation I recently finished “1972” a novel I stared almost 6 yrs ago. 1972 is a fictional interpretation of actual events. A B-52 that crashed in 1972, the black pilot on his first command, the racist George Wallace won every county in the Fla. Primary that year, Nixon considered using the A-bomb in Vietnam and the resurgence of the KKK. I am proud of the story. Unfortunately because of the amount of historical data, parts of it read like an essay. Before I shop it to prospective agents and publishers I would like a fellow writer or prolific reader to read it for feedback. “1972” was a book that I spent years researching before I started writing it. A while back I sent the manuscript to a professional for an evaluation. A month later I get the manuscript back and it was like a good kick in the ass. I went into a mild depression and grew very angry at the editor. I eventually climbed out of the narcissistic cocoon most writers dwell in. Reluctantly, I agreed she was mostly right about her observations. I remember Illya Kaminsky the incredible poet and a suggestion he made to many of us who were lucky enough to be in his master Class @ WWW. So I metaphorically tore it up, put it on the floor, and pieced it back together. Several chapter are gone, new chapters were included to add focus to the characters, and several of the characters were invited to join the infamous ‘deleted troupe black hole’ forever banished for failing to live up to my imaginary expectations. That sucked, “killing your baby’s” is a Hemingway quote. The problem with being a writer is that the work we produce today will not be as good as the work we produce as grow. I hope I have brought the book to my current level as a writer, I have not arrived but I am on the road. A part of me admires those, who in fits of rage destroy their early work.
