My Milwaukee Brewers. What a rollercoaster ride you took me and your fans on this season. Not many expected you to do what you did all season, and then........ not many of us expected you to derail in the end. You went into Arizona, to prepare in the Cactus league, and left at the end of March for Milwaukee and the regular season after going 13-18 in spring ball. The prognosticators predicted a third place finish for you, and we thought the same............remaining optimistic! First series at home against Atlanta. You won the first game, then dropped the other two, before hitting the road. Then, all of a sudden, you blew it up! Not only did you sweep the Boston Red Sox, but then went to Philadelphia, and swept them as well! Then you came home and swept Pittsburgh, making it a 9 game winning streak, holding a 10-2 record. The beginning of this season was a blessing to all of us fans, and we were truly shocked in a good way by you. Fast forward, you remained in first place from April 5th, until the ending of August............what happened? August 22nd, you started a 3 game home series against Pittsburgh, following a split 2 game series with Toronto, and had a beautiful record, 71-56. That was 15 games above .500, and the west coast was waiting. You lost 2 of the 3 games with Pittsburgh badly, then in San Diego, you lost 2 of 3 there, before a crushing sweep by San Francisco. Hell, 2 games you lost by 10 runs, and 11 runs........ not close, and you were losing confidence as August ended. We Brewer fans were nervous, you were no longer in first place for the first time since April 5th. Home, you lost to Chicago, St Louis won, and that hurt. We all held hope that the team we watched all year would straighten out the bad streak, get your shit together, and end strong. Not so much............ Tonight was the continuation of heartache for me and my fellow fans, as you had an awesome starting pitcher get through the majority of their game, leaving with a 2-0 lead two nights in a row, just to watch that lead disappear, then evaporate into another loss, and it hurt. Tonight just sucked, bottom of the 8th once again.........a 2-0 lead once again........ then the meltdown that crushed with one swing of the bat. Since September 1st, you went from 73-63.............now you are 79-75. In other words, you have gone 6-12 in September! It seems to most of us that the season is about to end, without a playoff hope. A slim hope, but that is all. Are changes needed in the off season, or was it a funky fluke that warped September into a dismal display of dissent? Overall, the season as whole was unexpected to both extremes, exciting, heartbreaking, yet many emotional and prideful highs. I thank you for the dream, even though it is ending in a nightmare........... it was great while it lasted, and it lasted longer than we expected. See you next year............now finish the rest of this with PRIDE!
