My Morning Paper 25th October 2013 Detached from the Truth and Reality “Party Chairman speaks out on House row” Nassau Guardian, Friday 25th Oct. 25, 2013 Excerpt from this story: “A heated row in the house of Assembly between Prime Minister Perry Christie and Long Island MP, Loretta Butler-Turner was uncalled for and reduced the level of debate in the House, several Politian’s said yesterday. Butler-Turner suggested that Prime Minister Perry Christie had a dislike for women after he said he will not be intimidated by her “might or size.” It seems that the Prime Minister has the privilege to personally attack persons in the House of Assembly, while others cheer him on and encourage and condone such behaviour but yet condemn those that are able to stand up to him in defence of themselves. I will not assess wrong doing in this matter at all but would rather direct the Prime Ministers attention to something of grave importance rather than that of a person’s physical appearance. “DNA Leader questions Unemployment rate” Nassau Guardian, Friday 25th Oct. 25, 2013 Excerpt from this article: “according to figures from the Department of Statistics, the national unemployment rate has jumped to 16.2 percent from 14 percent. The Labour Force Survey was conducted in May with a reference period of April 29th to May 5th 2013.” This is the very same government that had previously assured the people of the country that the economy was on the mend and that jobs were on the way and were indeed being created, so how is a negative 2.20 percent in the unemployment rate explained?. Mr. Prime Minister and to all others concerned, we are a year and three months into your administration and would like to know what happened to the 100,000 jobs promised in the first year? What about the first 100 jobs? You do realize that under your watch more jobs have been lost than have been created, right? That’s what we area at a negative 2.2 percent growth rate, the numbers do not lie; but while this is going on, home are being lost, people cannot find food to eat and the middle class slips into poverty you seem quite content and seem to find it totally appropriate to address a person’s physical appearance, this is indeed embarrassing for the leader of a progressive nation. To add insult to injury or just to make this whole situation even that more ridiculous we now have the following: “GB Minister: Unemployment rate doesn’t reflect current reality” Except from this story: “If the Dept. Of Statistics conducted a labour force study today on Grand Bahama, the island unemployment rate would be lower than the 19.5% that was recorded in May, Minister of Grand Bahama, Dr. Michael Darville said yesterday. Darville said that while he is not questioning the accuracy of the figure, the economic climate on the island has changed since the time of the survey and more jobs have been added.” While it is evident that the jobless rate has declined in the capital this good minister claims that jobs have been added in Grand Bahama, seriously? Are any of the members of this present government even trying to govern anymore?
