My NIGHTMARE with PODS (Portable on demand storage) company My move was scheduled for 10/1/13. PODS was to pick up the storage unit I had packed and move it to my new location. My 2 phone numbers were given to PODS so they could always get a hold of me since most cell phones do not get a signal inside my store. Sounds simple Right? WRONG! An email was sent to me telling me the time frame they would be there. 8:45 AM – 11:00. Since I am a business owner I needed someone to cover my Ceramic Shop while I was with the POD movers and then the movers who would move it into my new location. I picked up the individual who would be covering my store at 7 AM so I would have plenty of time to get back home with rush hour traffic. All was going smooth and on time when at 8:08 AM the POD driver (Russ) called to say he was at my house to move the POD!! Surprised , I mentioned that the time I was given was 8:45 AM. Angrily the man answered “Those times are no guarantee”. Now I can understand if someone was going to be late, but 37minutes early? I told him I would be there as fast as I can. He said he would call me back after speaking with his supervisor. Shortly he called me back and said I had 10 min to get home. I told him it would be difficult but I would try as I was in rush hour traffic. I decided to take side streets as it would be faster and called him back leaving him a message, as he did not answer, that I would be able to make it and please return my call to confirm that he received the message. A few min later I did not get any call back, so called again to let him know I was coming and would make it. Again, no return call. At the 10 min time limit I was on my street and would be there in 1 min. I called again and got him. Told him my location, and he stated “I’m gone, I left, I ‘m on Greenfield in traffic. (Greenfield is about 4 miles from my home) Surprised I stated “You told me I had 10 minutes”. He told me to take it up with the office and reschedule. I called the office and spoke with a Carol. She was more interested in berating me that she had called yesterday and I had not called back. I asked her when the time had changed and she sarcastically stated “Well you want us to call you at midnight?” I said “yes, if my time was changed”. I listened to my voice mail messages later and Yes she had called to CONFIRM my move. Stated she had a question about placement which I had spoken to 2 POD representatives before regarding the placement and nothing had changed since then. Was not interested in hearing what had transpired as “I heard it all from my driver” I explained the importance of today as I had movers scheduled and I had set up to be off of work today which was not an easy task. She would see what she could do but sounded quite doubtful. At 10:27 AM this Carol called me again and said “Well I had a driver there at 10 o’clock and you weren’t there again so your move is cancelled and I am charging you a cancellation fee” I was shocked to say the least. I asked why she did not call and tell me. “Well I left a message” was her response. I was at my ceramic shop and she DID NOT CALL. I double checked the messages on the phone and there was none of course as my helper was answering the phone when I was out of the room. Checked my cell phone voice mail that they were NOT to use and she left a message around 9:30 stating that the driver may be able to get there at 10 but would call me before hand which he never did. I will never use PODS again and want everyone to know so they don’t get burned as I did.
