My New York accent is going & the Caribbean accent is coming on stronger. I talk proper, it just has a West Indian twang to the words. People say talking Caribbean dialect (it varies from island to island) is ignorant. I highly disagree. English will vary depending on where you go in the world. Each location has their way of speaking English & a distinctive accent to accompany it. I am sure the British talk down to the Americans about altering their language. This also goes for other languages as well as each place speaks a distinctive form of the language. There is a time & place for everything so enjoy speaking your local dialect but when it comes to dealing with things such as business, international talks, trade, money & such - proper English is necessary. Vernacular & linguistics are funny like that.
