Wednesday, Oct 16, 6.30 pm. Public Talk by Ramu Ramanathan followed by Dramatic Reading of his play Curfew. Organised by Atelier Repertory Company. With Performing Tagore in 2011 and Performing Badal Sircar in 2012, this years series will feature Ramu Ramanathan, an Indian playwright-director with acclaimed plays to his credit. His latest play Comrade Kumbhkarna has been touring all-over India. Ramus work bears an urbane testimony to a country that has never been quite easy to decipher. Here is a writer who has transformed social and political commentary through the multi-layered tapestry of performance. A collection of eight of his plays, titled 3 Sakina Manzil and Other Plays is published by The English and Foreign Languages University (EFL), Hyderabad and by Orient Blackswan. Informed, incisive, ironical, Ramus work, is reminiscent of the great tradition of the Enlightenment. This talk is part of Atelier’s Performing Series which aims to look at the oeuvre of an artist or a writer in its totality through performances, workshops and talks.
