My Opinion..of course its mine... So yours truly was in the village last weekend..One of the reasons for going is to finalise the final funeral rites of my late aunt. Then i got wind of some happening or call it news in town...i was at first surprised..yeah maybe its been long since i got so close tradition...here is it.. I am told there is a new traditional law or whatever in town..promulgated by the traditional authority...that you can only bury your dead at the end of every month and not as it used to be...i bit myself to make sure i was hearing right..like seriously?? My issues/opinions!! 1. I hear these things happen especially with our Ashanti and Brong neighbours..and i fathom the reasons why they do these is that: the Akans sojourn alot and travelling back and forth for periodic funerals is not cost effective..so they lump all together and do at once..also our Akan brothers really celebrate funerals and not like mourn like we do..so they lump everything together and celebrate big time.. 2. It is good to cross-transfer good cultural values..but i differ on this new law in my fatherland Battor... But was there a problem with the previous way?? Has the previous way injured the tradition or anybody that it necessitates change? i dont think so... There are a lot of us who can hardly make earns meet..and will be burdened to be curtailed by a directive to keep our dead bodies in the morgue for at least a month with all the attendant mortuary fees..and it is not even that, it is not the state or the traditional authorities that will bury my dead for me..why not let me brighten my small corner..if a family decides it is prudent to bury their dead, let them go ahead... What of those of us want to be buried fresh in 3 days after our death..e on people...we want changes and development in Battor, but is this the most prudent and best directive to give?? Arent there other more important and critical directives and issues to tackle? As for this one dieeerrrr, i differ! But thats my opinion....
