My WISH FOR YOU IN 2015 Have you read this quote by author Elizabeth Gilbert? She says, If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting (which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments) and set out on a truth-seeking journey (either externally or internally), and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face (and forgive) some very difficult realities about yourself... then truth will not be withheld from you. When I read her words some years ago, they comforted me like a warm blanket. They still do to this day. Back then, circa 2010, I had just left behind everything familiar and comforting — I was free of material possessions, living out of a suitcase and seeking to connect more deeply with the truth within myself. It was as wildly freeing as it was frightening and lonely. But no matter what feelings emerged, a resounding voice within keep saying: Keep going. Keep discovering. Keep shining a light on the places within preventing your freedom. Allow the noise and voices outside of you to be just that: voices. And listen to your quiet pull within. Elizabeth Gilbert’s words provided me with a new frame and a renewed sense of faith. The journey I had embarked on transformed into one big scavenger hunt filled with treasures to be uncovered and teachers to be met along the way. Suddenly, my most painful relationships became my greatest spiritual teachers. The moments when I wanted to avoid conflict and run away were a chance for me to step up and own who I am. Past and present lovers were these magical beings teaching me the power of unattached commitment and unconditional self-love. The less favorable parts within myself became places to cherish and forgive. It’s amazing how present we can be to the miracle of life when we regard every encounter as a grand and curious adventure. When we let go of rightdoing and wrongdoing and bad and good. When we see the extraordinary beauty in the otherwise ordinary. And that is my wish for you this 2015. A truth-seeking journey. An eye-opening adventure filled daily with teachers and clues and gifts. A greater connection with yourself than you’ve ever experienced before.
