My all-time favorite Mommas Day memory... My mom passed away a - TopicsExpress

My all-time favorite Mommas Day memory... My mom passed away a very long time ago. But there is one story, almost 20 years later, that still makes me laugh out loud. Back in the early 90s, my parents took my brother and I to Walt Disney World. I wanted to bring a book to read while laying out at the ah-may-zing hotel we were fortunate to stay at while on the Disney complex. As I was deciding on my vacation read, I came across this compelling book written by a Harvard Professor. He wanted to interview and analyze individuals that claimed to have been abducted by UFOs. The book was not out to prove the existence of aliens or little green men, but rather to see if these individuals truly and honestly believed something happened to them or if they were just bat shit crazy. Any-who, the book was fascinating. One story that stood out was of a well-known, well-respected and wealthy writer from Upstate New York. He went on to describe how one night, as he and his wife prepared for bed, the only light in their bedroom would be the illumination of the red lights from the home security panel on their bedroom wall. The writer then explained how, in the middle of the night, he awoke to a wave of fear as the red glow of the security panel highlighted what appeared to be the silhouettes of 5ft tall beings peering from across the room. At first he just thought he was imagining things, until he closed his eyes and reopened them to find one of the beings directly in front of his face. The story continued on to describe the paralyzing helplessness of the unknown and what was transpiring around him in that room. Now what does this have to do with my mom? Late one night in the hotel, and after everyone was sound asleep, I continued to stay awake in bed and read this book. You know that stage you get into when you are not really asleep but not really awake? At that point the mind loves to play tricks on you. And as I hit that stage and was ready to call it a night, I didnt notice that my mom was getting out of her bed and starting to walk across the room towards the bathroom. Well, in the middle of the night and only illuminated in silhouette by my reading light, my mom fit the description of those 5ft tall beings the writer described. I gave out a scream so loud and so long that she not only started screaming, but was so startled that she fell over the couch backwards. Cut to my dad and brother jumping out of a deep sleep to find the image of my mom on the floor behind the couch with her legs waving in the air and me screaming and laughing simultaneously. So a big Happy Mommas Day to all the moms out there and to my mom... Thank you for raising a damn fool... a damn fool who loves that you can still make me smile almost 20 years later.
