My anniversary of my enlistment in the Army has passed, so I - TopicsExpress

My anniversary of my enlistment in the Army has passed, so I figured I would share some of my knowledge with you fine people. 3 steps: How to win a gunfight. 1. Be better than the other guy. Practice at the range as well as in your home. Load and unload your gun in the dark/or while not looking at it. Also I have had plenty of soldiers have a malfunction and just stare at there weapon waiting for it to fix itself. Know how to clear a malfunction because Murphys law is alive and well. Practice your draw. 1.5 seconds. (Also known as the tueller drill) That is how long the average determined person can clear 21 feet in. So, bad guy with a knife 21 feet away you pull your gun in 2 seconds.... You just brought a gun to a knife fight and lost. 2. Have a gun. Know how to use it safely. Pretty self explanatory. If your state allows you to get your concealed carry permit, DO SO. If carrying a gun is illegal in your state im not going to tell you to break the law.... just not going to tell you not too. If you do, take a firearm safety course. (Yes Im talking to you gun guys as well, a little refresher wouldnt hurt.) 3.Be prepared, and aware. Condition white. Some people, walk about this world oblivious to the things and possible dangers around them. Either on there phones, have head phones on etc or just feel there is no way anything could possibly happen to me. Or condition white. (The sheeps mentality if you prefer) Condition yellow. This is where I want most people to be, this is simply aware. That guy looks shady I should keep my guard up. Maybe Ill bank inside, that person by the atm looks sketchy. Just simply aware. This is where I try to keep my wife. Condition orange. This is a lifestyle choice. This is where I am at at all times. Not paranoid in the sense that everyone is out to get you, just prepared for the fact that everyone has that capability. What does this entail? When I walk into a restaurant I get a good look around before walking all the way inside, when asked where I want to sit, I select a seat with clear view of the door preferably close proximity to the kitchen. Which always has an exit. When I check into hotels I take the stairs and count them in case of a fire or power outage. (Helpfull tip, most hotels average 23 steps per floor) Also note: I do not recommend orange for the average person. It is a lifestyle choice, and not one to be made lightly. Once that switch is on there is no turning it off. You might ask why I put so much emphasis on awareness. Because the more time you have, the sooner you detect danger, the better off you and your loved ones will be. You might also ask, the chance of me getting into an armed confrontation are awfully slim are they not? Well, you have a 1 in 50,000 chance. In turn you might ask, then what would be the point of all this? Well... You could get lucky.-Doug
