My battle with Pender County Schools is really for all children who are individuals that just have needs that are different than others. I really think this is where people miss the real issue. All things are just done for kids that are individuals not in need of anything special. They get any and everything and are accommodated in every way. My son just has different needs but he cant be accommodated at his own school. So what does that say to me as a parent? Not anything positive. We can all see what goes on. Bottom line is its easier and cheaper to move and corral these kids wherever the greatest number of them Are and place them in a central school and make them get on the bus before six oclock in the morning and ride until 7:30 or 7:45. Thats was best for the severely disabled. Of course the last two years several lived a mile or less from Penderlea. However, instead of keeping the class there and making another class at Burgaw Middle( had enough kids to make classes at both schools) lets say Penderlea isnt compliant and make up issues that have not been any problem for the last Two years so we can move the class and gather them all up and not pay any more for teachers! Oh but let the Schools need to hire teachers because they have more kids coming in and it is done!!!! Ours arent worthy. Might as well say they wont make a difference in society but we gotta do something with them. Well I dont feel that way. Jones should have every opportunity that any individual has regardless of his condition. He should be treated as an individual just as the others are and to do anything else is discrimination. There are many more kids in Pender County that will be entering school and I hope and pray whatever the outcome that things will better for all individuals who have different needs than others. Please pray for strength and wisdom for me and for Stacy (parent advocate) as we continue our quest for these amazing children already compromised mentally and physically but no less individuals worthy of way more than any of us can give:) Thank you Lord for all children. You have blessed me beyond description. I just pray so for all the kids affected by these issues. Some have been moved three times in two years. Only to have one more year before being moved a fourth time. I ask for smooth transition for the ones who must go against parents will and that you give them peace and the children good health. I pray for no seizures on long bus rides and in new classes. I pray for acceptance by all at a place where kids like this have not been. Middle school kids can be so unkind . Soften their hearts Lord with love for all. In Jesus sweet Name I pray amen.
