Western Australia State Open Swimming Championships: Tan Jing-E, 13, came within three-tenths of a second from the oldest national womens record when she clocked a time of 2 minutes 23.71 seconds to finish second in the 200m individual medley final. The national under-14 record of 2:23.42 was set by Joscelin Yeo nearly 21 years ago, on March 1st 1993. It was the culmination of a fruitful outing for Jing-E, who clocked seven personal bests in the 14 races she swam in. She bettered PBs in four of the five events she took part in. They were the 50m butterfly (28.54s), 100m butterfly (1:02.88, 0.05s off the under-14 record), 200m butterfly (2:20.69) and the 200m IM. Jing-E also swam the 400m IM in a time of 5:08.06. Lionel Khoo, Lee Zheng Kai, Mattias Ng, Chantal Liew and Alethea Toh were Singapores other representatives in the five-day meet.
