My buddy Bobby Conte Thornton beautifully sang this beautiful Stephen Schwartz song last night from Godspell at the after-party for Schwartz who was honored at a benefit for Bay Area Cabaret last night at the Fairmont Hotel. I woke up humming it this morning so signed on to youtube to find it and discovered this version sung by Hunter Parrish, the young actor - for those of you who are fans of The Good Wife- who played the troubled college student who killed the character of Will Gardner played by Josh Charles. This is a different side of Hunter who played the role of Jesus in the last revival of Godspell on Broadway. When your trust is all but shattered When your faith is all but killed You can give up, bitter and battered Or you can slowly start to build ... As I was listening to these words from this song this morning, I realized two years and four months ago today that is exactly what I began to do when I finally surrendered so I could survive. Maybe some other folks can find their own memories, and their own sort of solace in this song today.
