My buddy and I were talking about the great comic artists of the past and present. We listed the ONE ARTIST who dominated and defined his decade, and came up with this list. Clarification, this list doesnt mean the artists listed are the best artists at the time. Its based on various different factors: popularity, talent, uniqueness, how other artists are imitating them, etc. There are many talented artists throughout the years such as Michael Golden, Berni Wrightson, Mike Mignola, Don Newton, Walt Simonson, Adam Hughes, Travis Charest etc. but for whatever reasons, they never quite broke out of the pack and into the forefront of the buying publics conciousness. Speaking of Michael Golden, he may be one of the most underrated artists in the last 40 years. I would list him behind Jack Kirby and Neal Adams as the third most influential artist in comics. Without him, there would be no Arthur Adams. Without Arthur Adams, there would be no Image Comics. EDITED: You guys made lot of good points but were going for artists who were game changers, not the number of books they did. However, I added the runner-ups who were right behind them). EDITED: It was brought to my attention Joe Mads Battle Chasers was published before 2000 and Jim Lees DC run started after 2000. (Good call, Eddie.) So the list is revised again. 1950s - Wally Wood (Runner up - EC comic artists) 1960s - Jack Kirby (Runner up - Neal Adams/John Romita Sr.) 1970s - Neal Adams (Runner up - John Buscema) 1980s - John Bryne (Runner up - George Perez) 1990s - Image Comics (Completely changed the landscape of comics.) (Runner up - Joe Mad/Arthur Adams) 2000s - Jim Lee (Runner up - Bryan Hitch/Michael Turner) 2010s - ???? Are we missing anyone?
