My cancer story~It began with a self exam, I felt the lump on my right breast, it was already quite large. My heart sank, I had no insurance, my first thought was, I cannot afford cancer. I have worked my entire life, and now, with only a part time job after the closing of the store that I was working in, and keeping up with cobra payments for many months, and finally unable to continue affording it, I am caught in this place of uncertainty...I need to wait, for this part time job to become full time, because if I have cancer now, when I do have insurance they will be able to say it was a pre exiting condition and wont have to cover me...so months went by...I waited....I asked for more hours? none were available, I searched for a full time job, nothing was available, I waited, more months went by, the lump continued to grow...I have no insurance, I cannot afford cancer....I finally spotted a brochure at work, talking about a free mammogram program through the American Cancer Society...I give them a call, gather the info, and head to the hospital for a mammogram...it didnt take the doctor long to confirm my fear. YOU have cancer I said, oh, he said, did you hear me? YOU have cancer, I heard you I said, there just isnt anything I can do about it, I have no insurance. The American Cancer Society calls me a few days after the mammo...yes I say, it is cancer, thank you for the free mammo, at least now I know for sure...but I still dont have insurance, and I still cant afford cancer. wait the voice says~dont hang up, we can help you until you do get insurance To be continued~
