My complaint of the day for Beaver Dam Unified School District- How do you cancel spirit week for entire middle school. It has been a tradition since my husband went to school there now all of sudden it is only for the high school. The football program from grade school to middle school are no longer on the floats because why? Dr. Vessey you should look at this a little closer. You want to provide the best school experience yet you allow a tradition to be removed arbitrarily. Homecoming and spirit week brings the school district together, it gives the younger kids something to look up to and makes them feel apart of something bigger then themselves. High school is the end of an experience not the beginning and as you remove traditions you remove a sense of belonging. This town and school district already has enough problems with kids feeling like they are apart of it and they want to contribute; why take away something that helps them feel connected. This community wants its citizens to contribute and make a difference yet it has been divided for longer than I have been here. WAKE UP- you have children that are wanting to be apart of something and they keep getting alienated. Do not ruin traditions because someone decided that it is all about one class and not an entire community. We live in a democracy take a vote for next year and leave a good thing alone.
