My dad Robert Armstrong was killed September 20, 2007 after being struck by a semi in Balch Springs, Texas. Because the driver of the 18 wheeler did not Slow Down Move Over...My dad was not here to see the birth of his two grandsons. He will not be here to clean a shotgun as a boy waits to take my daughter on a date for the 1st time. Nor will my dad get the chance to take him Snipe Hunting :-) My dad was not here to walk me down the isle, nor did I get the chance to introduce him to my husband. My dad took his last breath in the center median of the highway. The night before my dad was killed....My parents decided that they would re-marry after 2 years of divorce. I had to tell my mother that the man that she had loved since she was 18, would never come home. When the it was time to close the casket.....I laid across my daddys chest and cried. I begged them not to close it, repeating... Not my daddy, Im not ready. I then spent the following 2 years in a civil lawsuit against the man that ran my father down as he was running for his life. And during that 2 years, the defendants attorney showed me pictures from the scene of the accident, and I learned of details that to this day still haunt my mind. I won the civil suit...but the Grand Jury let the driver walk without consequence. The next time you pass a Tow Truck on the side of the road...think of my dad and I, and Slow Down and Move Over. #moveover
