My dad had the habit of getting up, putting on his robe, getting a cup of coffee and sitting at the kitchen table—every morning. This was his time of reflection. Sometimes his Bible would be at the kitchen table with him, sometimes not… During this time of reflection, on more occasions than I can count, he would turn to my sister or me and say, “You will never meet a finer person than your mother. She’s one of a kind.” As children, we watched our mother relentlessly and consistently reach out to her friends and loved ones with generosity, service, affection, and forgiveness. I can tell you that and my sister, Greg and I, and our children would confirm, that Roy Glenn was exactly right—our Meme is one of a kind. When mother fell in November we all had high-hopes that Meme would fully recover. She made great progress, especially at first. So, with the approval of doctors, nurses, and therapist we made the decision to bring her home on March 19. Precious friends cleaned and disinfected her mobile home (which had sat unoccupied for now over four months), and filled her cabinets and refrigerator with fresh food. Arrangements were made for home health care, home therapy, and care partners (a service that provides care for daily living activities). We were nervous and excited to bring our precious girl home. Then, less than a week into our adventure, with a nurse only a few feet from her, Meme again fell. She is back in the hospital. Since the time of her second fall, Meme has totally regressed, and is even worse than she was after the first fall. We do not understand why this is so… This fall was not that traumatic—no broken bones, and she did not hit her head. However, in a way that only the Lord understands, and by a process that resides deep in the recesses of her brain, Meme has again gone away for a while. Perhaps the Lord will be gracious and allow her come back to us yet again. We hope and pray that He will. In the meantime, in an effort to preserve Meme’s dignity and protect your memory of this amazing person, my sister, Greg and I, along with all of our children, have made the decision to restrict her visitors. Please pray for Meme, and be assured of how much she loves each and every one of you. To quote Roy Glenn once again, “Margie is the real deal.” And, Oh, what a Savior is ours, that He would have bestowed upon our family the privilege and blessing of having Margie as our mother and grandmother.
