My dad tasked me with permanently erasing broken hard drives. A single .222 Remington is generally sufficient to destroy two drives in a line at once while shooting diagonally across Lake Louise, which is good because I have big boxes of drives and not many bullets. The older (2001 era) drives make slightly better backstops than the newer ones, but no single drive has completely stopped a bullet yet. Bits and pieces of hard drives and fragmented bullets are collected in a cardboard box full of wet newspaper, the better to avoid troubling the wildlife with a fine spray of whatever is in hard drive platters mixed with lead. Efficient? No. Fast? No. Mildly interesting? Yes indeed. Murika.
