My daughter, Amy Host wrote & sent this to TTM. Mrs. Thomas-Manning, I would first like to thank you. Thank you for underestimating and subsequently uniting this community. Thank you for being the catalyst in countless discussions among parents and children about the importance of integrity and accountability. I also must admit Im impressed by your resolve to avoid acknowledging the actual points of contention in the proposed contract, as well as their striking parallels to a certain recurrent political agenda. Im dumbfounded by your continual assertions that what is currently happening inside our schools is acceptable, much less going well or getting better. You certainly seem to be unwaveringly committed to creating this illusion. I do admire your tenacity, albeit misplaced. That being said, I feel that you should be aware that much of this community is collectively offended by the dismissive, intentionally vague, and often misleading information and responses weve been given. We are far more informed than you had expected. We are aware our student/ teacher ratio is substantially higher than that of comparable districts. We are aware of what staff members can be surprisingly included in this ratio. We are aware that a 25/1 ratio does NOT in any way cap a class at 25 students. We are aware of the extreme lack of planning time our teachers receive. We are aware of how merit pay works. We are aware it can be quite the misnomer and are also aware that it is a system that very often fails. We are aware of what is fair and the sacrifices our teachers have made and continue to make for our children. Most importantly, we are painfully aware that our childrens safety and education have been, at best, compromised. Trust has been broken and their foundation has been shaken. They are feeling doubt and uncertainty that runs a spectrum from their hesitance to walk into a building, to their actual academic future in this district. You have clearly underestimated our awareness and intelligence. Mother to mother: Please do not make the mistake of underestimating our resolve as parents to make this right for our children. If you take nothing else from this, please let this be understood. The parents of this community stand with the REA. We stand with them because they are fighting for the conditions that will provide the best educational environment for our children. We are more dedicated to our children than anyone ever has been to any political agenda or bottom line. We will not be mislead by propaganda. Complete autonomy is very unimpressive when overwhelmingly opposed. I respectfully emplore you to exercise your own sense of integrity and join us in finally doing what is fair for this community, our schools, our children. Thank you for your time. Amy Host
