My daughter, who will be 1 year old(9 mos adjusted) this month is being weaned from her vent. Her doctor told us that we could use the Passy Muir valve during her time off the vent. We have tried it a few times, but it is freaking us out(well freaking me out lol). She hates it. She cries and starts to cough and her face starts to turn red. I read on passy-muir that coughing is usually normal because air and secretions are, obviously, now flowing through the airway. Is this normal? Does she just need to get use to it or could she not be tolerating it? We have an appt. next week, but any advise or suggestions I would appreciate it :)
