My dealings with American Homepatient -- mom had a wheelchair rented through them -- just got it about a month ago. Long story short -- she died on Wednesday and on Thursday, there was a message on HER machine saying they would be there on Friday to pick it up (the day of her funeral!!) Of course, I didnt call them back. But I went by there today to talk to their manager to tell them how appalled I was that apparently that wheelchair was so important to them that they had to have it back before I buried my mom. Then I asked how he knew she had died. He told me -- and I quote -- I look at the newspaper every morning to see if any of our customers have died!! Seriously!!!!!!!! If he were purusing in order to send sympathy cards, thats one thing. But thats not the case. I promptly called him a vulture, told him I hoped he never had this happen to him and if the wheelchair was that valuable to them, or if their company was in that dire straights, I would write him a check today for it. I have lodged a complaint with their corporate office.
