My dear brothers and sisters, It gives me pleasure to present - TopicsExpress

My dear brothers and sisters, It gives me pleasure to present myself as a candidate of Bahujan Samaj Party for election to Parliament from the Nagpur Parliamentary Constituency. I am gratified at the confidence placed in me by the party leadership at local, state as well as national level. I assure you that I will try my best to justify that confidence. Although Nagpur is at the heart of the country and rich in all kinds of resources, this one-time capital city has always been neglected by successive governments. Not only Nagpur but the whole of Vidarbha has always received step-motherly treatment at the hands of those in power. The farmers are driven to suicide, there are no avenues of employment for the youth and there is no development worth the name. The much-hyped MIHAN project is bogged down in political and bureaucratic wrangles. In this holy land of Deekshabhoomi, the worst sufferers of political neglect are the oppressed classes, the scheduled castes and tribes. It is necessary now to put petty political considerations aside and concentrate on real issues affecting the lives of people. I feel it my duty to put my priorities on record, in the following form: 1. Creation of a separate state of Vidarbha as early as possible by using all our strength and resources 2. Creation of job openings for our youth, by boosting the development of small and medium scale industries in the region, and by creating opportunities for self employment 3. The development of MIHAN by ensuring better coordination among the government and the bureaucratic machinery on the one hand and the industrialists on the other to remove the hurdles and speed up the progress of this prestigious project. At the same time, adequate and timely compensation to, and rehabilitation of, project affected farmers in MIHAN. 4. Ensuring proper implementation of central and state government schemes for development of the city in all respects, such as roads, sewerages, footpaths, flyovers etc. 5. Regularisation of unauthorised layouts and provision of civic amenities to fringe areas of the city 6. Strengthening efforts for the rejuvenation of Nag and Pili rivers and arousing public support for this cause 7. Rehabilitation of street hawkers and footpath traders by arranging alternative and viable sites for plying their trade 8. Speeding up the Metro project in the city for removing congestion on city roads and improving commuter traffic 9. Making all possible efforts to minimize crimes against women. Also ensuring proper monitoring of women empowerment and child welfare schemes in the region 10. Follow up with civic authorities for extending civic amenities in slum areas of the city such as water, electricity, roads etc. 11. Streamlining public health facilities and improving services at government medical colleges and hospitals in the interest of the poor 12. Monitoring the working of the law and order machinery in the city to ensure safety of the lives and property of law-abiding citizens 13. Welfare of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes and religious minorities by ensuring proper implementation of various government schemes meant for them 14. Creation of a strong farmers lobby in Parliament across party lines to obtain remunerative prices for farm produce 15. Introducing a bill in Parliament to remove anomalies and lacunae in the crop insurance scheme, to ensure prompt and adequate relief to farmers in case of natural calamities such as the recent hail storms In fact, all these problems could have been easily dealt with if we had faithfully followed the constitution given to the people by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Unfortunately, our leaders paid only lip sympathy to the cause of the people and busied themselves in lining their own pockets. It was the dream of late Shri Kanshiramji to restore the constitution to its fullest glory. The Bahujan Samaj Party supremo, respected Mayawatiji, is trying to fulfil that dream through social engineering. Maharashtra has a glorious tradition of social amalgamation, as a legacy of great social reformers like Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh. This is also a land of saints cum social reformers such as Sant Gadge Baba and Tukdoji Maharaj. When elected, I promise to remember their deep commitment to the cause of the poor and the oppressed, and pledge to make all possible efforts to further that cause. I earnestly request you to cast your valuable vote in my favour and give me the opportunity to serve you through the realization of the dreams of these great people. Dr. Mohan Gaikwad, BSP Loksabha Candidate
