“My disease is not important” she said, as she was wiping - TopicsExpress

“My disease is not important” she said, as she was wiping tears as fast as they fell. My heart broke as I listened to her story. As I visited with this sweet lady, I was just amazed how many I talk with daily that don’t feel there is help because they don’t have an illness that is talked about or even an awareness of. This precious lady had been in a wheel chair for many years, and lived in constant pain. Mavis Pearl was with me on this visit, and there was such a precious connection between the two. Mavis knew her illness was just as devastating as others. She knew her heart was hurting and she sat snuggled in her arms the entire time we talked. I reassured her we were there for her. There was such relief on her face. It is why Joy In The Cause was formed. When Mom was diagnosed with cancer, and I faced the diagnosis of autoimmune disease, we began our journey to help those with life altering illness. We saw who fell through the cracks and how much help was needed. When one person suffers with an illness, the entire family suffers. It was our deepest desire to get help to those who were just like this precious lady and felt her disease was “not important.” Her cause mattered. Our little stuffed Mavis Pearl prayer dogs are always a comfort to those hurting but many don’t realize we help patients in so many other ways as well. Our mission is to bring care, compassion, and joy one personal act of kindness at a time. That personal act of kindness may mean groceries, a money card, a gas card, a house cleaning, help with a bill, support for the siblings, a visit with Mavis…. every need is different. Just like you can’t “cookie cutter” a disease. One can’t “cookie cutter” the help that will be needed. I will never forget a precious lady that asked if I could go get her a rotisserie chicken and come talk to her about anything but cancer for an hour. What a joyful afternoon it was, and some of the best chicken I ever ate! We laughed, we cried happy tears, and we told fun stories together. She forgot about the cancer for an afternoon and it help change her perspective. It reminded her that there was laughter and even in the midst of the battle, a heart could be light. It just had to be reminded. We could not do what we do without sponsorships and donations. We are overwhelmed at how fast things have grown, and how many people need help. There are so many people that come to us daily who have fallen through the cracks. It breaks my heart that they have felt alone on the journey. Sometimes the biggest need is just having someone there to care. That is why we named it “Joy in the Cause…..your cause matters.” It really really matters. I have been asked by many this week, how they can help. We could not do what we do daily without donations and sponsorships. All of those donations are tax deductible. There are so many ways to help. And we LOVE to get our sponsors involved. It is huge for us to show where those donations go, how they help others, and reach those who truly do fall through the cracks and feel there is no help. There is nothing that makes us happier than having those who have given to our organization be touched by the miracles that happen as a result of their generosity. We are truly so blessed by all who have helped us do what we do. To find more information on how to make a tax deductible gift, become a sponsor, or be involved in helping spread the joy and bring help to those with life altering illness and special needs, please visit our website joyinthecause.org. Your continued support helps us bring joy and help to those in need. We would love to hear from you! Amazing things are on the horizon, and as word gets out, more people need help. Thank you for helping us help those needs. There is JOY in the cause!
