My ex-Marxist Vietnam professor called my assessment of the rise - TopicsExpress

My ex-Marxist Vietnam professor called my assessment of the rise of the political left brilliant. Understanding Socialism has won a number of socio-political debates for me (by win I mean that the person I was having the conversation with had to resort to ad hominem attacks; people rarely concede or open their minds to ideas that contradict their presuppositions). Socialists who arent directly involved in politics typically have good intentions, but those good intentions are misguided by a basic misunderstanding of human nature. This fact is directly supported by history. You cant force people to share, you have to allow everyone the opportunity to earn. No greater good exists on a higher plain than the rights of the individual. When we start sacrificing the rights of the individual for the good of the many, everyone eventually suffers. That said, men such as Ho Chi Minh are incredibly sympathetic. Had the West honored even one of the many promises they made, Ho wouldve been an ally to the United States and the Vietnam War never would have happened. Ho became a Communist out of necessity.
