My family died in Nargis big typhoon storm, my employer dont let me go back to help my brother and sister for 2 years. And she stole my money. Yesterday after Yolanda news, I remembered my friends story. Tinzar is a Myanmar maid, come from seaside area. Her father fisherman and farmer. She come to Singapore June 2007. She work for a chinese Singaporean employer in a big house. She cannot go out, no off day. But she OK, she work hard for the money. When she start work, her employer ask her sign document, say that the employer will keep 6 months salary ($1,500) for her and pay her back when she go back home. She dont understand english so she sign. In May 2008, the big Nagris storm hit her town first. But Tinzar still working at home dont know anything. 2 weeks later, someone call her house. It was Tinzar cousin. Crying. She say whole family die. Only Cousin alive and also Tinzar one young brother one sister. Ask for help. Tinzar tell her employer everything, ask employer for some of her old salary to send back. Already the employer keep $1500. Employer refuse, say she already sign, so cannot give. Tinzar then ask employer to go back to see her family, because father mother uncle auntie and some brother and sister all die! (actually during Nargis 100,000 people die) She want to go back and help her brother and sister. They have no house. They stay in other peoples house now, and other people also nothing to eat. Employer say got contract, and what for go back, everybody die already. Tinzar cannot quit, because she think she have contract, and also the employer hold her money, so she have nothing to bring back to help. In middle 2009 she did not renew contract. Her employer angry, dont want to pay her money back. Her friends ask Tinzar to report to police, but Tinzar cannot speak english properly, cant talk to police, she dont believe police will listen to her. During all the 1 year between May 2008 Nargis and middle 2009, 1 year, Tinzar every day heart broken thinking of her whole family die. She cannot go out, so she dont know whether her cousin, sister and brother alive or dead. Her employer transfer money for her to Yangon cousin, so she cannot even make phone call. She have no money. Employer also dont want to pay for plane ticket. She used her last month salary to buy plane ticket and go back Myanmar and take some remainder money take the bus back to her town. She go back $1500 cheated by employer because they didnt pay her back. Her Yangon cousin have been travel to her town to give money to her cousin, sister and brother every month. They alive. $300 a month is more than enough to live, so they can pay for own house for rent. Its funny for a 12 year old child to do this for 10 and 9 year old children. When she reach the town cousin already 14, and youngest brother and sister already 12 and 11 years old. She cried for a long long time. She stay 6 months, the money will not be enough. She go to Singapore again. She got another evil employer. She stay for 2 years. In 2013, she work for another family. When she go she is sad face, I know, because I was her friend. After 3 months working she become happier. When I leave Singapore to go home, she is fatter and happier. She told me this story. She said her new employer is good people, and they always try to talk to her to ask her tell her stories. Both the husband and wife are rich and powerful people (she dont know what they really do) and the wife heard about this story, and she take Tinzar to the old house she work in 2008, and find the old employer to ask for the $1500. But the employer not there anymore. One relative stay in the old house, old auntie. The old auntie told the wife and Tinzar, the old employer and the wife break and divorce, and auntie buy the house from them. The two people and children have gone to other country and not any more here. Can you imagine 1 year of heart break dont know whether your family is alive or dead? Can you imagine the heart of the employer who dont allow you to go, and steal your money also? In church when they talk of the devil it is not so terrible.
