My family has been seriously considering a new dog for over a year. We have carefully considered all of the characteristics of various breeds, and the Barbet easily falls into the top three. I have to admit the rarity of the breed contributes to its attractiveness. We have formerly had rescue dogs, and the fact that they needed us and seemed to love us more for having rescued them has given us even more satisfaction as owners. But with a Barbet it would be different. In the past, dogs have always found us. Now we are looking for a dog. And this time instead of rescuing a single dog, we have a chance to contribute to saving an entire breed. We live in Durham, NC, USA, and we are looking for a breeder at least semi-close to us. We are interested in buying one or two females, hopefully litter mates if we are able to buy two. We are seeking guidance from the entire Barbet community in helping us make the best choices now and in the future, not in figuring out where to buy a particular dog but in figuring out the best choice(s) we can make for the good of the breed. I am not opposed to acquiring a puppy from overseas; it would just be less complicated finding one here. I know this post seems like a lot of others on the forum asking, Where can I get a Barbet? But I need more help than that. We also need mentoring from experienced breeders to ensure we do not make mistakes that might set the breed back. Thank you in advance for your help.
