My family just sailed on the Allure of the Seas for our annual New Years cruise, and even though youd think we might be jaded by all the great experiences there are to be had on a cruise, in fact, we found ourselves having the time of our lives in places wed never really been before all together. We Freeds love to feel special, and a port like Labadee does that for us in a dozen different ways. What makes this port a unique experience is that it offers a plethora of fun and relaxing activities that suit a variety of personality types - the adventurer, the relaxer, the athlete - and all in one place. When my family visited, we reserved in advance a beach cabana that looked over the water at Barefoot Beach. This cabana, which we had for the entire day, served as a perfect home base - our own little paradise - as we explored Labadee. While my husband spent hours reading on a cushy couch beneath the shade of the cabana, my children swam in the ocean directly beneath, and our family friends (the Ritzenthalers, who shared our cabana!) had fun on stand-up paddle boards. Our cabana not only granted us access to the private Barefoot Beach, but we were also given access to a delicious lunch buffet that included grilled lobster, scallops, hamburgers, and fresh fruit. Rejuvenated by the delectable food, my family spent the second half of the afternoon exploring some of the more adventurous activities offered at Labadee, including the Dragons Breath Flight Line, which is the longest zipline over water in the world! The zipline ended up being the highlight of our afternoons. Although we were all nervous at first to fly so high above the beach, after a practice flight, we knew the fear would quickly turn into complete elation once we were in the air. 5 of us flew together side-by-side, including Dondra Ritzenthaler, my daughter Karin, me, my son Bradley, and my sons girlfriend Sam, who are all pictured below from left to right. When it was time to board the ship, we felt excited, relaxed, and ready for a delicious dinner back onboard at Chops Grille. Only on Royal could my family have experienced such a fun and yet relaxing day in Labadee, a port that truly has a bit of everything!
