My fellow Scots. It is with great foreboding and reluctance that I now join this virtual community of nihilistic interaction. My reason? A once in a lifetime opportunity. Those that love me know me well, will understand how significant it is for me, to be now joined to this forum; where I am now subjected to all the ramblings and thoughts of the people I love and respect....The Horror! Ramble 1) To reject our autonomy and self-determination would be to take a backward stroll into history and remain there. To say on that ballet paper that Scotland should not be Independent is to advice they rest of the world that no peoples of any land should reach for their own self-determination, for it is a bad idea. This logic implies that: the United States should have remained the Thirteen colonies of the British Empire, India should still be the Raj, Australia and New Zealand should still be governed by Her Majestys Governor Generals and dear Ireland firmly subjected to Westminster. Ramble 2) The question on that ballet paper is asking us shall we survive or thrive? Fearful of survival will mark the ink beside no. But in all of history there have never been a people or nation that has a better hand of becoming Independent than we Scots have now. This is not a giant leap. We have now 15 years of stable and successful governance at Holyrood - we know now how to do it. We have the greatest natural resources in all of Europe: Oil, wind, water, gold/silver, agriculture, fish etc. Oil might or might not run out in 50 years but thats just the North Sea, there are over a hundred years’ worth untapped under the west coast (the reason for which is the nuclear base at Faslane). We are mature, creative, canny, and bountiful with resources, and it is in the entire worlds interest for us to prosper as that will increase their prosperity too - including England! Ramble 3) This, I think you will all agree in my final ramble is the greatest and most articulate argument to Vote yes for independence. I leave you with it and hope on Friday that we see each other to start a new adventure that is truer to our heart and wiser in our head.
