My first show in Pittsburgh was at Garfield Artworks. I was in The Slant. We played with Dan Koshute later to become DAZZLETINE, and a young Dean Cercone. Over the years, Ive performed there with sybris, PALEFACE, Megafaun, Polar Scoüt, Ben Folds Five drummer Darren Jessee and his band Hotel Lights, Kid Durango, Ball of Flame Shoot Fire, Sun For Moon and so many more. So sad to see it go. I wonder why it is closing and what the future will hold for that holy spot. Manny Thiner is a intricate human being and a work horse who has been dedicated to filling that venue for so many years. This past Friday outside of the Brillobox, a crust punk rode past on his bike yelling METAL SHOW AT GARFIELD ARTWORKS! and it make me smile. The place has always been a staple of Pittsburghs identity for as long as I can remember. It will be missed. -André
