My fork spring upgrade for a 2014 XT250 11-1128 by progressive - TopicsExpress

My fork spring upgrade for a 2014 XT250 11-1128 by progressive suspension. I got mine on ebay for $76.00 after doing lots of spring research. These are used in older 600 KLRs, GS500s and Ninja 250s to name a few. You can find the specs for these springs here. progressivesuspension/pdfs/7100-105.pdf Youll notice they are about 3/4 of an inch longer than the stock springs and rated much higher poundage wise. I was afraid theyd be too much spring, even for my 220lbs of heft, they arent. I lowered my fork oil level down to 4 inches from the top as measured per the shop manual. I then cut the stock spacers down by an inch for less preload than stock. Why did I take out the amount of fork oil I did? Because progressively wound springs, displace more fluid due to their tighter windings at their base. Why did I not use the pvc spacers that came with the kit? Because they take away the air volume that acts like a spring, which allows the initial movement of the springs to compress easier, which softens sharp edged bumps and initial felt impact. I wanted to avoid bottoming, yet still maintain a somewhat compliant ride. My end result, after a thorough road test on some stutter bumps at high speed (on road)is a nicely compliant ride that sticks well, with no excessive rebound speed. (no need for emulators or heavier weight oil) Off road, no bottoming out in large holes and no pogo stick effect either. Unfortunately, now I HAVE TO upgrade the rear spring, because the front end is soooo perfect (for me) that the rear suspensions flaws are REALLY apparent now, and unmatched. Once shes completely modded, I promise to post some pics. So far, she has CR high bars, Oxford essential commuter heated grips, an 80/100 amber all-weather headlight bulb, obligatory Deer whistles for Pa. roads (they may not really work but, they add a coolness look to the headlight fairing and heck, Ive always used them and havent come close to a deer in over 25 years...L.O.L....well, maybe once) Ive also replaced the tail light bulb with an led unit and installed a Gorilla alarm, rear rack and emgo top-box as well as a fishing rod holder and louder horn.
