My friend Simon Katans complaint to the BBC for their broadcast of the CAA anti-semitism survey results this morning. As a British Jew I was so disappointed to hear the item on the CAA survey which claimed that more than half of UK Jews believe they have no future in the UK. This does not reflect my experience of being a Jew in the UK at all. Having taken the survey myself I found it to be a highly biased form which in 13 very leading questions such as The recent rise in antisemitism in Britain has some echoes of the 1930s (see antisemitism.uk/ for the survey) revealed a clear agenda of equating legitimate criticism of Israel with anti-semitism. Furthermore the selection of participants relied on self-selection and social media - hardly scientific ! The report even mentions criticism from YouGov in this regard . Yet the Today program nonetheless broadcast the statistic as incontrovertible fact. This is misleading and divisive. In the name of balanced reporting I ask that the today program mentions this recent survey thejc/…/jc-poll-reveals-88-cent-british-jews…. My grandfather grew up in the East End of London in the 20s and 30s when anti-semitism was genuinely institutionalised. Cable Street was a road he couldnt cross for fear of being beaten up by black shirts. Now thats an anti-semitic society not the UK today. Finally if you insist on publishing the accompanying YouGov poll you could at least mention that UKIP supporters polled higher for all anti-semitic comments than anybody else.
