My friend, Whit Deschner recently shared with me his beautiful collection of photographs from an adventure 4 years ago rafting the Zanskar River in Northern India. I was completely amazed by the breathtaking images of the high mountains. I went on a research journey soon afterwards and found this remarkable short video about three British housewives who left their homes in England in 1958 in a Land Rover they were gifted with for the purpose of accommodating their adventure. They drove across France, Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and most of India to the north. They were the first European women to venture into Zanskar, where foreigners were forbidden to travel for political reasons. Probably the first European women to cross Afghanistan unescorted. This short video is compiled from old footage - what a wonderful story - one that truly illustrates how much our world has changed.
