My friends: Before I say goodnight, Id like to make a statement that should surprise absolutely no one- I believe in knowledge over belief. Weird statement, I know. I also believe in science: the life view that testing what we think is better than just guessing or accepting. I believe in the scientific process of Question, Hypothesis, Experiment, Assessment, Repeat. I also believe in God, a supreme intelligence. Whether that intelligence created the universe or is a product of it, I do not know. I believe in the words of Jesus of Nazareth. I believe in some of the words of the Buddha. I even believe of some of the words of Mohammed. We ALL possess a part of the TRUTH. Some more than others. (Please refer to the story of the blind men and the elephant.) But more than any other tenet of my personal philosophy, I believe in Love. Love for family, love for friends, love of my fellow humans and this planet we call home. I love my wife. I love my son and his wife. I love my mother and my father, though he is no longer here. I love my siblings. Love is what drives us. Love is what consumes us. What do you love? What do YOU believe in? ...believe in enough to risk it all? ...believe in enough to die for? ...believe in enough to live for? Good night, and dream of love.
