My good friend Derrick Watkins reached out to some of his friends and asked us to share something of #encouragement. Something of ourselves. This might get wordy but Ill try to keep to the point. The video below is Raul Midon performing his song Sunshine live. This is my favorite song and video for so many reasons. The power of the lyrics, his mastery of the guitar, the majesty of his voice, its all glorious. And Raul. Raul and his twin brother, Marco are true inspirations. Born premature, they were both blinded in infancy by incubator lights. The beauty and brilliance you see below is what Raul did with his handicap. And Marco? Hes a NASA Engineer, responsible for executing so many remarkable and often life saving acts for space missions that hes called Marco Mission Impossible Midon. (nasa.gov/centers/goddard/about/people/MMidon.html) In the past 10 years, I was in a near fatal car accident that left my legs fractured in several places. Ive broken the same toe twice, gotten a horrible staph infection in my leg from a spider bite that had to be cut out, and Ive thrown my back out countless times. I had food poisoning requiring hospitalization, had my appendix removed while 9 weeks pregnant and carried that baby 2 weeks past due, and Ive dislocated my shoulder. Those are just some of the injuries, we wont even discuss the illnesses. But Im still walking. In fact, Im still dancing, singing, doing yoga, chasing my son around playgrounds, making love to my husband, and, yes, having another baby. Im still claiming my life as fantastic because it is. Not a single one of those things has taken my life or my joy or my ability to see the wonder in every day. And I can still do so much more! And if ever I do feel like Im at my limit, I sing this song at the top of my lungs and I sound damn good doing it because I believe it! I just needed to remember. What we know can set us free, And rearrange reality. Reality is what we know. We can change a rivers flow. Plant a tree, watch it grow. Build a shelter, build a home. youtu.be/ZMpL19yKmuw
