My government will stand alongside the workers affected by Holdens closure. Thats why today I announced the first steps of our comprehensive plan to support them. To support jobs in SA, well be starting work sooner on millions of dollars worth of infrastructure projects. Ill be talking about the rest of the plan in the coming days, but it will include support for retraining and diversifying workers skill sets, support for advanced manufacturing, and promoting the growth of new industries. Ill also be calling on the Federal Government to increase its financial commitment to the Holden response, because its just not enough. Far from feeling liberated by the prospect of losing their jobs - as the Prime Minister suggested - workers are coming forward with stories of distress. We need to support them, and we will.
