My grandfather, Rabbi Harold Schulweis, passed away early Thursday morning. His teachings, far beyond that of jewish theory, focused on human rights and social justice. “Conscience may be understood as the hidden inner compass that guides our lives and must be searched for and recovered repeatedly. At no time more than our own is this need to retrieve the shards of broken conscience more urgent.” -H. Schulweis Im not sure if he was fully aware of the social injustices & response thereafter but I do know that he would encourage each of us to continue to have the hard conversations & fight for the rights that each human deserves. Among his many accomplishments he created a family filled with tradition & lively debate. Im going to miss my grandfather who constantly encouraged me to follow my heart, challenge the norm & do what I know to be right. I couldnt have asked for a better teacher.
